Heirlooms as they are much like epics, very useful for fast leveling, so what’s the best spots to get heirlooms in Mists of Pandaria? While not the best of epics, they sure do provide a lot more punch than the other gear available. But the question I ask myself is; Do we need this much power? I feel that this advantage makes the game less entertaining for the ones without a maximum level character. Perhaps not in PvE, but mainly in PvP.
An example of this would be that, say; A new player joins his or her first battleground, happy to be trying out the game. And then, suddenly, someone in Heirloom gear pops up and one-shots them. Again, and again, and again, and again. What it all comes down to in the end is which team has the most heirlooms. Because they, will win. And it goes on like this not only for level 10-19, but all the way up to level 60~ PvP, I've not tried the later levels on my alt so far.
At level 90 in Mists of Pandaria, heirlooms are approximately equivalent to an item level 187 rare item, and will ultimately be replaced by questing, instancing, and PvP at the maximum level. Heirloom items do not have a durability stat, and do not need to be repaired.
The best spots to get heirlooms in Mists of Pandaria:
1. PvP heirlooms can be purchased from vendors in Wintergraps with stone keeper's shards. You obtain these either in PvP dailies or by looting them from instance bosses when your faction holds Wintergrasp.
2. PvE heirlooms can be purchased with emblems of honor that you can buy with emblems of valor that you can buy with emblems of conquest that you can buy with emblems of triumph that are dropped by bosses in heroic instances and low-level raids. There is an heirloom vendor near the other emblem vendors near the inns in Dalaran.
3. PvE heirlooms can also be purchased with champion's seals obtained in the Argent Tournament. There is a vendor in one of the tents on the tournament grounds. If you do the tournament dailies religiously, there are eventually 9 daily quests that give 10 champion's seals a day, and the heirlooms go for 75 seals and up. You may have to be exalted with the Argent Crusade in order to buy these; I don't think you have to be an Argent champion but don't remember.
